Artifact 1
My first artifact is the Interactive Resume that I created for the Introduction to Blended/Online Learning course. I used Powtoon.com to create my resume. I chose this artifact because it was only the second time I had ever used Powtoons. I thought I was really tech-savvy, but I realized I was not. There were so many websites out there I had never heard of, and Powtoons was one of them. I was more proficient at using Powtoons the second time and felt that I could be more creative after having some practice. I also chose this artifact because I still feel the same as I did back in November. I would still like to be a blended learning teacher. After looking at it again I would add more details to it. It is fairly basic and I feel like I now I could be more specific about what my classroom would look like and what programs and websites I would use.
Artifact 2
My second artifact is the Try It and Reflect assignment from the Flipping the Classroom Class. I had to create a flipped lesson where the students watched a lecture and at home and completed an activity based on the information from the lecture the next day in class. Assigning homework that requires technology is a challenge at my school. Many of my students do not have the Internet, let alone computers. My solution was to have the students watch the video in class and then when it was time to meet in small group they would complete the assignment. The flipped classroom would only work in my class if the students were given Internet services and a tablet, laptop, or desktop. One of my classmates suggested opening up the computer lab before school as an option. I could not do that every day, but I could manage a few days a week when I am not attending meetings.
I was proud of this lesson because it was the first time I had ever created an online lecture. It was actually very easy and a lot of fun. The students were very engaged as well. I would have made some changes to this activity. The students zipped through the lesson very quickly. I could have given them more online content. They proved to me that they could handle more content because they were so engaged.
Artifact 3
My third artifact is the letter to my supervisor from the Engaging the Online/Blended Learner course. I wrote this letter to my principal explaining why I would like to be a blended learning teacher. I also explained that I would like to use the station rotation model and outlined the programs and websites I would use. Little did I know a few months later I would be at a meeting explaining to my principal the benefits of a blended learning classroom. Minutes after that meeting she called me back into her office and offered me a position as a strategist, but this time I would be working with the fourth and fifth grade teachers getting them to strengthen their use of technology in their classrooms. I originally took these classes because I thought they would benefit me in the future, little did I know it would benefit me sooner than later. I do not think I would change this letter much. It covers everything I would like to accomplish, getting straight to the point.
